We are seeking Candidates for Board of Commissioners

CAROL STREAM, IL – The Carol Stream Park District Board of Commissioners is inviting residents to run for election of three open positions on the Park District Board of Commissioners. These positions, each with a four-year term, will be up for election on April 1, 2025.

Eligibility Process:

To be eligible, candidates must be:

  • A resident of the Carol Stream Park District for at least one year before the election.
  • A registered voter in the Carol Stream Park District.
  • A U.S. citizen and a resident of the State of Illinois.
  • Not in arrears in the payment of any tax or other indebtedness to the park district.
  • Free from convictions of infamous crimes, bribery, perjury, or felony in any court in the United States.

Election Application Packet:

Potential candidates can obtain an election information packet, including petitions and other necessary forms, at the Simkus Recreation Center, located at 849 W. Lies Road, Carol Stream. The packets are available Monday through Friday from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM, starting August 20, 2024. 

Petition Circulation and Filing Dates:

  • Circulation Begins: Tuesday, August 20, 2024
  • Filing Dates: Tuesday, November 12 through Monday, November 18, 2024
  • Filing Location: Simkus Recreation Center
  • Filing Hours:
    • Tuesday, November 12 – Friday, November 15: 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM
    • Monday, November 18: 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM

Candidates must also file a Statement of Economic Interest with the DuPage County Clerk before submitting their packets.

Role and Responsibilities:

Park Board Commissioners play a vital role in setting policies and guiding the Park District’s future. In addition, elected Park Board Commissioners are responsible for:

  • Attending all Board meetings, special meetings, and functions.
  • Representing the best interest of all residents of the Park District by reviewing meeting agendas and materials, and other information provided in advance of Board Meetings.
  • Understanding and supporting the Park District’s mission, services, policies, and programs.
  • Abiding by all Federal and State statutes governing park district operations.
  • Carrying out fiduciary duties of the Board of Commissioners.

Commissioners receive no compensation for their service.
