Coral Cove Water Park will stay closed for the 2020 Season
April 28, 2020
Dear Carol Stream Park District Residents and Patrons:
Coral Cove Water Park will stay closed for the 2020 Season
In light of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Carol Stream Park District will be keeping the Coral Cove Water Park closed for the 2020 swim season. If you already purchased a 2020 season pass, your park district account will be credited.
The Carol Stream Park District Board and Staff feel this is the right decision for the health and safety of the community as we continue to cope with how the COVID-19 pandemic unfolds. There are still so many questions we wish we could answer. The Park District has not been spared from the evolving challenges we face in not opening up facilities, not running programs and canceling events. As one of the biggest employers in the community, we also understand the huge impact caused by not hiring seasonal staff. We are truly heartbroken that we are unable to bring you the recreational opportunities we had planned and that you are used to seeing and enjoying.
We also understand that Coral Cove Water Park provides immeasurable benefits to the community. Coral Cove provides fun days in the sun, a place to make family memories, a great place for friends to play, or a local place to hang out. However, ensuring the safety and well-being of the community, visitors and staff must take priority.
The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) does not recommend visiting water parks. To operate Coral Cove Water Park, we would still need to comply with social distancing (keeping people 6 feet or more apart), size limitations (keeping gatherings under 50 people), and cleaning/disinfecting guidelines. We considered the impact of these recommendations on the pool, our community, visitors and staff; and we determined it is unclear how to open the water park and still comply with the strict limits and safety protocols issued by the CDC and Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH).
The Carol Stream Park District is anxious to fully serve our residents and get life back to “normal,” but we must do so based on the recommendations of our State Officials and the CDC; we take our responsibility to prevent the spread of COVID-19 seriously. The safety and well-being of our residents must remain at the forefront in order to see any return to normalcy in the future. This overall effort is our highest priority.
Thank you for understanding and stay safe.
Sincerely,
Jim Reuter

Our Response to Your Email Inquiries
4/17/2020 – Response to Email Inquiries
The Carol Stream Park District has received many comments and inquiries to the info@csparks.org mailbox, and we thank you. It helps us to know what is on our residents’ minds, what is important to you at this time.
The COVID-19 crisis we are currently living through has produced so many questions and “what-if’s” about park district programs, facilities, parks, events, camps, sports leagues, etc. We honestly want to answer all your questions, and we hope to do so in due time. We are closely monitoring the day-to-day news and Illinois government briefings; but right now, we do not have answers. Our decisions will be based on questions like:
Will Illinois extend or adjust the Stay at Home Order?
Will the CDC continue to recommend a limit on numbers for public gatherings?
Will the 6-foot social distancing requirement continue, and for how long?
The answers to these questions alone will have a profound effect on when and how we reopen our facilities, how we run our programs and operations, and how we implement safety measures moving forward. Until we have a better understanding of these answers (which could still evolve and change), the more confident we can be in our answers to you. We ask for your patience and understanding as we all manage through this predicament together.
In the meantime, our recreation staff has been posting an “Activity of the Day” on Facebook to keep you and your families engaged and to let you know that we are thinking about you. We’ve created an Activities page on the website that has up-to-date information about parks, and things to do, both indoors and outdoors. The page includes some interesting resources to educate and keep you “in the know”.
Currently, trails remain open while it is safe to do so. Walkers, joggers, cyclists – everyone should practice social distancing even outdoors. The Activities web page provides a statement and link to the National Recreation and Park Association about how to practice social distancing while outdoors.
The Carol Stream Park District is tentatively set to open on May 11. Programs that have previously been canceled will remain so. We will confirm this date when we are certain, based on State and Federal directives. Until then, as answers to inquiries and information become available, we will keep you informed via communication through emails and our website.
Thank you. Stay Safe!
